Hanging at Lantern Hill (My Mind's Eye Sketch Challenge entry)

Lantern Hill

 

 

My sons are 29 and 32 today. When I look back at the photos I have of them when they were young,

of course I wish I had taken more, but mostly I'm excited to document those times that were so special.  The photos bring back the memories and feelings from way back then, and now I have a way to write them down and explain the photos.

 

This was a trip to Lantern Hill. It is the tallest point in our area. The kids and I walked to the top, where I took photos of  nature and dh took photos of the kids and me.  The boys had so much fun, playing in the bushes and celebrating that they got to the top of the "big hill". I am so very happy that I have these photos! My journaling on this layout is hidden under that piece of paper that is under the photo.

Back with my second card.

For this card, I stamped my favorite Hero Arts background stamp using Versamark ink. I also stamped the saying using Color Box ink by Stephanie Barnard.  I inked around the label with Distress Ink, added a think border strip  - and done.

Casual Fridays

I played along with Casual Friday this time. These are my entries for CFC112. Of course, I may be inspired to create more. If so, I will update this post. These are pretty simple cards, which is good because this challenge is to make a clean and simple card using aqua, green and orange. Here are my cards:

I embossed the kraft cardstock, stamped the saying and added a little bling, added the bottom cardstock and a border strip.

August? No way... it's too soon. I haven't been to the beach yet. I haven't had a cookout. Oh dear, what have I done? 

Well, I've adopted a lovely little long-haired Chihuahua puppy. His name is Charlie. I can't seem to stop scrapping him. Guess I'm in love.  I have a LOT of pages to upload and share, but for today I will share my most recent layout featuring Charlie. I used American Crafts card stock, my Silhouette Portrait (I had to try it out, since I won it), some wooden stars, along with buttons and bling, sequins and a felt piece, Thickers, acetate arrows, twine, and other things from my stash. I used my ATG to attach most items and my Tiny Attacher for the acetate arrows.

Matchy-Matchy Card for Moxie Fab World

The challenge was to use different patterns that didn't match on a project. I made a card. There are 8 different patterned papers on my card, including the wood patterned paper background. I stitched around the border with twine. I used a tag and a rub-on for the sentiment and I finished it off with a wooden heart. Linking up to the Moxie Fab blog. Thanks for looking.

Recipe Book

I made 2 of these recipe books for my sons. They include family recipes that I thought they would like. They both really enjoyed their books, so I guess they came out all right. 

I made them several years ago - have you ever wanted to remake something? Do you change something that is important and has already been given? I guess I'm being silly. I'm so glad my sons enjoyed them and I hope they'll use them all of their lives.

I was so excited to see this month's sketch from My Mind's Eye and Pagemaps! Love all of the circles and I have a photo I've been wanting to scrap that fits this perfectly.

Here is my try at this sketch.

Please excuse the colors - the bottom is a bit more accurate. It is a terribly cloudy, windy, chilly day in the northeast. This is a photo of my dh and I on the day before we got married. We were helping my mom set up her house for it.  I had so much fun using the Vintage Nostalgic Collection, along with Everyday Fun stamps, Follow Your Heart stamps and Nutmeg Hanging Out stamps (all from My Mind's Eye) and I inked the edges of everything with Tim Holtz Distress Ink. I cut all of the circles, flower shapes, tag shapes, photo corners and the photo mat using my Silhouette Cameo and files from the Silhouette store. I also used some Bazzill cardstock for the hearts, a Jenni Bowlin for Fiskars tag and the Fiskars heart punch, Basic Grey Candy Buttons and a small tag, my favorite black foam American Crafts Thickers, a lovely Webster Pages Cameo Pushpin, Echo Park Photo Freedom labels, Stephanie Barnard for Clearsnap ink, bling from my stash, my Scotch ATG, Tombow Mono Aqua glue and some foam tape.

Well, I've been kind of busy lately

But I haven't gotten that much done... lol. I wonder if anyone else has days or weeks like that. I wanted to enter all of these World Card Making Day challenges, but so far, I haven't managed to enter even one. I make cards, but somehow I don't get them done until the day after the challenge is over. sigh. I'm still trying though! I'm bound and determined to enter at least one!

KinderStampO has a challenge to submit any card, so here is the card I'm going to enter.

I've made a couple of other cards, but when I uploaded the photos and went to edit them, the pictures weren't great, so I have to take some photos in the clear daylight. It was very overcast and gray here today.  I even scrapped! I know, I can't believe it either. I was just sitting at my scrapdesk, and I saw a photo that I wanted to scrap. Nah, not really. I just started with a white piece of cardstock, and then I made a pennant (maybe cause I got the new Jenni Bowlin for Fiskars Pennant punch). I love it!! I was playing around with it, and then I had a bunch of pennants punched... and next thing I knew, I had a layout done. Amazing!  I'm proud to say that I stamped and punched and didn't use anything store bought except brads. My journaling is on a strip that slides behind the photo. Here it is. The flash in the photo is terrible. I'll try to get a better photo and replace it.

Master Crafter Contest at Pink Cricut

Hi.  I entered a Master Crafter contest at Pink Cricut (now called Sarah Hamer Designs). It cost $10 to enter. Sarah sent us each the exact same box. It contained the items below:

We received a Scissor Mouse sponsored by Westcott , DCWV Rockstar mat stack sponsored by DCWV Deals, Cotton Bag Sponsored by State line Bag Co. , 1/2 sheet of Rhinestones sponsored by Queen & Co., Sentiment stamp sponsored by Pink by Design, and Assorted Buttons. My sentiment stamp said "faith".

What a challenge! While showing my son the supplies I had to use, we decided I should make an owl. Yes - the colors I chose out of the stack reminded him of an owl, so an owl it was!  I searched online for some good owl images, and settled on this one (Brown Wood Owl from Wikipedia). Don'cha love his red eyes?

Ok, so I cut the paper into strips and then cut the strips into smaller pieces, using the Scissor Mouse. I really enjoyed this cutting device. It worked directly on my desk, with no type of protection needed. It cut every type of paper I tried. It was very easy to use and very comfortable as well. I recommend it!

Next, I cut the strips of paper into many feather shapes. I also cut some v-shaped strips for the chest. I cut 3 pieces of paper into wings and a tail. I used the bag for the body. I cut a small card in the shape of the owl's head and then a heart for the eye area. I punched circles for around his eyes. I added red bling for the eyes.

I individually glued down each feather in a pattern that pleased me for both wings and the tail.  I made a beak from Sculpey II, after trying a bunch of things with paper. I glued the v-shaped strips to the bag and I inked the bag and around some of the paper areas. I used Scor-Tape to attach the wings and the tail to the body (bag). I lined the back of the wings and tail, too. 

I stamped "faith" into the card (head). I wrote "for" before "faith". Then I wrote what you will see below. I have a dear friend named Faith, and I'm going to give his to her filled with candy for Halloween. I figure a red-eyed owl kind of fits, right? I attached a circle, that I attached to another circle with foam dots, to the back of the small card (head). This way, the head will fit onto the body. I finished the eyes and attached the beak and - ta da! I was all done. (Ok - it wasn't really ta-da... it took me a lot longer than I thought it would. Lots of doing, redoing, checking the photo, planning and doing again).

I took photos to show that the bag still works and will be a great gift bag.  I know it doesn't look like the photo above, but I think it looks a lot like an owl. This was a fun contest and I'm really glad I played along! Here are the photos:

Halloween is Coming

My first Halloween project this year is a tag. I participated in a swap and I sent this tag to my partner. It is hybrid. I printed out the pictures and papers and then fussy cut everything. I searched the web for a great little verse and I printed that out, too. All in all, I think it came out cute. Thanks for looking!

DCWV/May Arts Challenge

I'm so excited! I was one of the 25 people chosen to participate in this challenge. DCWV sent us all 1/2 of  The Snapshot Stack and May Arts allowed us to choose from a set of ribbons and a twine. I picked 3 ribbons and twine. I worked on this (not full time) for over a week and I put my heart and soul into it. I don't have many photos of my sons when they were little, so the few I have are uber special to me! I cut out words I made and a few files I purchased at the Silhouette Store on my Cameo - LOVE my Cameo! So - here it is:

 LOVE these colors! These two photos are expecially important to me. The left photo is 32 years ago, holding my firstborn. The right photo is my younger boy. It truly does feel like yesterday.

 I made the cute little paper holder things by cutting them out of the paper and then adding a smooshed brad to them.

 This black lacy ribbon is fabulous! Seriously! It is sturdy and soft and lovely. The twine was gorgeous, too. 

 The left page is NOT my favorite. I just could get it to work the way I wanted it to. Does that ever happen to you?

I made a couple of these lattice rectangle on my Cameo and I made them into pockets for the journaling tags.

 I made the yellow bow from my favorite ribbon and tied it with twine.

 Love the hexagons - from the Silhouette store. I did a lot of pen work throughout the album.

I love this lace ribbon! I thought it would look cute on a page with the baby photos (sorry M, you are not a baby in the bottom photo).

I enjoyed making this card for the CREATE hexagon challenge. I used Pink Paislee paper and my Sizzix embossing folder, along with Tim Holtz distress ink, a piece of yellow cardstock from my stash, a ribbon from my stash and a bit of fussy cutting. I wasn't chosen to be featured (no big surprise), but I think my card making is improving. Thanks for looking.

Here is my entry for the March 20th Card Sketch Challenge Tuesday! I swear that this card is pink! I cannot get it to look exactly right. I'm sorry about the photo.

I used some of my very favorite Bo Bunny papers - Sophie and Delilah. I fussy cut all of the flowers and I used the curly line from Kitchen Spice. These are all Back to Backs.  I stamped the sentiment using Just the Basics from Stampin Daisies, along with in from Stephanie Barnard for Colorbox ink. I inked everthing for definition and highlights. I also drew around the curly line with black pen. I added some bling for good measure! Thank you for looking at my first Bo Bunny entry!

Tuesday Trigger 3-25-12

This is my first entry for a Tuesday Trigger! I was inspired by the beautiful damask print and the light rug over dark floor, and by the pop of pink. I stamped this saying  and the brown frame using stamps from the Stamps of Life.  I used ink by Stephanie Barnard for Colorbox. Next, I diecut it and the layer behind it using a Sizzix die by Stephanie Barnard. I attached it to this ovely tone on tone paper and I inked all of the edges for definition. I rounded the corners and attached a ribbon from my stash. To finish it off, I added a bit of bling. Thank you for looking!

CAS-ual Friday Entr

Here is my next CAS-ual Friday entry (or two). I'm determined to keep trying.  I love to add more... and more... and more, so it is always a struggle for me, but I enjoy trying. I stepped out of my box this week. I used Tattered Angels mist, ribbon and bling from my stash, Stephanie Barnard for Colorbox ink and a beautiful stamp by Studio 112 that I found at Jo-Anns.  I made the red card first, so that is my entry. I'm also going to enter my blue card, because I think it's pretty. The bling on the red card is red in person. I didn't have blue bling (hanging my head in shame), so I used some Stickles.  Thank you for looking.

CAS Baby card

Here is my first baby card, and I tried to make it clean and simple. It is my entry for this Cas-ual Friday CFC42 challenge.  I used my Sizzix texture folders, a stamp set by G Studio and ink by ColorBox and Stephanie Barnard.  They are my  favorite ink pads for stamping!  The papers are from a Debbie Mumm for JoAnn's Boy stack, DCWV and my stash. I colored the image with Sakura Jelly Roll pens.

Clean and Simple is not my strong suit, but I had a lot of fun making this card. Thank you for looking. Well, I guess not too many folks will be looking, since I messed up the linking. Better luck for me next time... lol!

My First 2 Page Layout!

Die Cuts With a View (DCWV) has a Stack-a-holic template challenge once a month. For the past couple of months, I've tried to play along. This month's challenge is a 2 page layout, which I've never done.  I decided to give it a try.

While looking through my photos, I found the large one on the left of my best buddie, Cid. I wanted to create a page for him... so, here is my very first 2 page layout and my entry to the July Stack-a-holic Template Challenge!
